When we lived in Washington, my eyes would gloss over during the 500 mile road trips between Seattle and Montana. The route was unordinary and predictable because we had become so accustomed to it. This was not the case this time around. We had last traversed this path in early 2008. My normal passenger habits of sleeping or reading lost out to my wide eyes of wonderment as I was again reminded how beautiful Washington is (ok, a little blah in the middle, but what state doesn't have a little of that?). I had two reels playing in my head: one of Colorado and one of Washington. I was playing them side by side in my head and making the comparisons the entire way. The closer we got to Seattle, the farther behind Denver got. It's funny how time changes things. I had almost forgotten how in 2008 we were so psyched to be leaving it all behind. Now, it was like we couldn't get back there fast enough-- except the situation only being temporary now. Either way, we're really anticipating the days to come in Seattle.

The Columbia River.....disregard the 2,000 miles of bug splatter on the windshield. |

Doesn't this almost look like it could be out of a sci-fy movie?! |

The rainbow at the end of our journey (our stop for the night, at least). |

Quaint little campground near Ellensburg. |

And there they are! The Cascades! |

What a marvelous sight! |

We're almost there, we're almost there-- Seattle here we come! |

I'd say it was a huge sigh of relief to finally be in the city. But, in reality, it was more like holding our breath in the city traffic with a big truck and trailer in tow. I used to work in the white building with the flag on top (just to the left of the farthest left pole in the center of the picture). Boy, those days seem like a lifetime ago now. |
Stay tuned to see all of our excursions in the PNW!
