9-5, Labor Day Camping

We got lucky on several fronts this last Labor Day Weekend.  Apparently, in other places, the holiday weekend was cold and rainy.  Not so for us here in CO-- the weather was beautiful.  The other piece of luck we had was finding a last minute camping reservation at a local reservoir.  I had my doubts as to how much we'd like this campground given there was actually a space available the week before the holiday weekend.  But I guess if you pay your dues enough, sometimes you can actually get lucky!  We were all pleasantly surprised when we pulled into the campground at Dillon Reservoir a few hours northwest of home.  The metro traffic heading into the mountains was as terrible as expected, so that didn't surprise us much.  What did surprise us was how serene and pretty the campground was.  Now, in hindsight, I should have remembered to take pictures of the actual campground and not just our adventures away from it.  I'll remember for next time.  But trust me, it was pretty good compared to some of the other places we've endured.  This weekend near a body of water was good for the soul.  The view from the lakeshore (which was just a short walk from our trailer) reminded me of Flathead Lake.  We really did have a nice, laid back weekend for a change.  We did some hiking, some fishing and I got to plop myself down on a log and read my book.  I think we were all pretty satisfied with this outing.  And, I actually look forward to returning to it in the spring!  How about that?!

A short hike down to the lakeshore reveals some pretty awesome sights.

Sven, Nik, Nik's little fish and pontoon boat full of Louisianans!

A sunset hike back up to the trailer.

One of these pine cones doesn't look right, does it?  On that same sunset hike, Sven said, "Look!  Mouse!"  I screamed and hopped up on a rock.  I'm not sure which of us, me or the critter, was more frightened.  I snapped a dozen pics of him and decided that maybe he wasn't so terrible after all.  Dare I say.... even a little cute maybe?!

Pretty time of night.
The next day we drove to the nearby town of Frisco for a little hike.  This is the view from the trail with the town of Frisco in the forefront and the Dillon Reservoir in the background.

Hope y'all (in honor of the Louisianans) had a great weekend-- rain or shine!
