Third time's a charm, isn't that what they say? Last week was an exercise in futility and frustration. Mom and Dad left Texas and had planned on spending a few nights at our local Walmart on their way through. I love Walmart as much as the next person, but I'd prefer to have mom and dad stay with us rather than the Walmart parking lot. So, I found the closest campground I could that had availability for the Memorial weekend and reserved spots for both of us (who cares if it's only 15 minutes from our house, right?!). Then (thankfully it was only inconveniencing), Mom and Dad broke down....not once but twice! They were stranded on the side of the road (yes, two different times on two different days) in Oklahoma. Worried they weren't going to make it up by us in time for the weekend (or anywhere for that matter!), we improvised. I called Capulin RV down in New Mexico and was thrilled that they had space available for both us of for the weekend. Eventually, Mom and Dad's motorhome got repaired and they were on their way. We pulled Nikolas out of school the day before the weekend, and made the 3.5 hour trek to meet them. Whew--- it took a lot of calls and a lot of hours on the side of the road to make it all happen, but we were able to spend the weekend together. It was neat being able to camp with Mom and Dad in such unique place-- neither our home or theirs. We enjoyed our daily hikes around the volcano-- not so much the daily thunderstorms that drove us inside during the evenings (but we were thankful to have an 'inside' to go to when the storms hit, the poor boy scouts gave up and went home). We're glad we were able to spend this time with you, Mom and Dad! Hope your drive to Montana goes much more smoothly and safely!!

We found an old cemetery to wander through.

Sleep....we need sleep. When will Emalie sleep?! Hmmm....thinking our 3-week trailer vacation this summer is going to be mighty exhausting....... |
|
It's not all smiles and peace--- as proven by this candid of Emalie refusing to ride in the backpack anymore, Nikolas making sure she doesn't wander off the edge of the volcano, and dad and Sven struggling to........what ARE they struggling to do?! |

Looking up to the rim of the volcano. |

It was crazy how cold and windy it was in the center of the volcano! |

Don't they look cute sitting there already to go?! |
