As many of you already know, Nikolas is a fish-a-holic. Emalie is a wanna-be anything that Nikolas is. It's been raining here for weeks, and when the rain finally subsided a bit, momentarily, we took a drive out to Deckers (about an hour from home) on the recommendation of friends. The kids were able to get their poles wet and we were all able to get some fresh air at last. As you can guess from the preceding comment about 'raining for weeks', you can imagine how high and fast the waters of the South Platte River were. Sven and I knew the fishing wouldn't be good, but Nikolas was eager to give it a try anyway. He was disappointed not to catch anything, but it's better that he learned this for himself than persuading him to listen to us. Emalie? Well, she was happy, in the end, learning how to cast with her new (Spiderman!) fishing pole in the parking lot. Here's to the start of summer!

The muddy water reminded me of the 'rivers' in Maryland. |

She looks like she's on a mission, doesn't she?! |

Emalie is an abundant hug-giver.... on her terms: "Nik! Hug!" |

A slow shutter speed and tilt of the camera give you an idea of the river's power. |
|
No sun, but lots of picnic tables (and no crowds!) for our picnic. |
|
The old bridge reminded me of all the bridges we used to fish near in MT. |

Emalie's 'fish'. |

How often do you see pay phones these days? What an odd place to encounter one. |
Hope you all enjoyed the Memorial Day holiday! We're ready for some summer fun. What about you?
