6-9, Cottonwood Camping Scenics

I almost forgot to include one of my favorite pics with these posts!  Below is a picture of Nik's fish (and, yes, some chicken, too) over the campfire.  If you look closely, you can see the sliver of blue lake right above the grill.  How often can you see the fish cooking and the lake it was caught in such a distance away?  That is why this is our favorite spot at this campground.  What a view!

The scenery photos from this trip can be found at the link below (on my photography blog).

Enjoy-- I know we did!

6-9, Camping with Grandma

We had a special inaugural camping trip this year.  We were joined by Sven's mom for our trip to Cottonwood.  We'd never taken anyone camping with us before, and we were pleased how well our trailer accommodated another person.  We were a little concerned about the weather in the mountains because lately at home we've been bombarded by thunderstorms and tornado warnings.  We took our chances and were pleased that we had beautiful weather for our outing.  We took 'Grandma' to Cottownwood Lake-- a favorite of ours.  Nik is at that age where we let him take off on his bike and fish alone for a few hours.  It was a nice chance for the rest of us to walk between the campground and the lake to get some fresh air and enjoy the scenery.  Emalie enjoyed riding her Strider bike.....though she still says she wishes it had pedals.  I took over 300 pictures over the course of 2.5 days.  For this reason, I will separate the blog posts between our family pictures and my scenic ones.  If you weren't lucky enough to spend some time outside this past weekend, take a journey with us to the Colorado mountains.......

Em's moved on up in the fishing world.  She no longer has the fake little fish that came with the pole on the end of her line.  That there's a real hook she's fishing with-- look out everyone, Emalie's going to cast!

Our little rider left us in the dust getting back to the trailer.

Fish!  Nik caught fish!

Some more s'mores, anyone?

Grandma's first s'more was a riot to watch.  LOL......

The windy evening and melted marshmallow were a comical combination.

She licked the entire marshmallow before deducing: "I don't like this."

Grandma soon learned the value of wearing hats in Colorado.  Here she borrows Sven's,
but she bought her own at the  ghost town's mercantile at our next stop.

The St. Elmo chipmunks were waiting and hungry.....

I'm happy to say that we all got some nice quiet reading time in at the camp.
A good Nicholas Sparks book and the fresh mountain air makes me happy!
