10-5, DC

We had a good first weekend with mom and dad here. Saturday wasn't as eventful as Nikolas had a bowling birthday party to attend. But Sunday, we were free to head out for our new favorite escape-- DC. Optimistic Sven thought that maybe we could avoid the crowds with it being a fall Sunday. WRONG! We could hardly find a parking space anywhere. And were we crazy or were there an unusually high number of dogs everywhere?! I finally asked and got my answer-- National Walk Your Dog event sponsored by the Humane Society. There were dogs EVERYWHERE! Little dogs, big dogs, furry dogs, well, you get the idea.... it was quite a sight!

This was the first trip we were able to see the WWII Memorial.
It's a very pretty memorial and so intricately laid out.
It's a wonderful, long overdue tribute.

And finally,
"NO, GRANDPA! My rabbit is NOT going to turn into a duck!"

10-3, Ft. Meade Camping

I said I would believe it when I saw it, and wouldn't you know "I saw it"..... mom and dad made the drive from Montana to spend the month of October with us in Maryland! They've only been here a few days already, and it's been so nice getting to spend time with them daily. Nikolas loves the weekends because we let him stay up later and have campfires and marshmallows. =) It's definitely not like spending your evenings in the mountains of Montana, but we'll take it! Thanks for coming to see us, mom and dad!

Should I tell you what dad is doing or should I just let you guess?!
Ok-- he's fanning the fire. After all the rain we got the day they arrived, all of the wood was still pretty wet.
Nikolas sure does love his grandpa (grandma, too)!

9-30, Rascal update

Just wanted to give you all an update on how our newest addition is settling in to the family. As you can see, the answer is 'just fine'! Nikolas adores this little rabbit and holds him whenever he can. On a funny note, Rascal is quite the character and appropriately (not by us) named. If you stick your hand into his cage and invade his territory, he'll let you know it! He really "charges" and if you've really caught him off guard he will nibble on your fingers.... a nicer way of saying that he'll flat out bite you. =) Other than that, he's quite a cute little thing and we're all quite fond of the little guy. And, I think Cadi (the cat) even likes him.... a little!
