Your eyes don't deceive you....that's our baby play yard. Who knew it would come in handy BEFORE sister came home? After one day at home the old shower curtain has already been replaced with a new shower curtain LINER! Yep, gotta figure out how to potty train that little bugger!
Rascal has taken a liking to his new little rubbermaid box. We put it in the carrier (kitty carrier at that) when we brought him home yesterday HOPING he would instinctively use that as his litter box. No such luck-- he thinks it's his bed!
Nikolas is more reserved about picking up Rascal than I thought he would be (which is a good thing I suppose as everyone has warned us how delicate little bunny bones are). When he wants to hold him in his lap, I have to put him there for him. With time I figure he'll learn how to maneuver those kicking little sharp feet.
And then there's Cadi..... I'm pretty sure she's thinking "WHAT IS THAT?!?!". Afterall, she may be 12 years old but other than traveling across the country 4 times (ha ha) she isn't that experienced with the outer world! She is the reason we have Rascal in the play yard during this adjustment period. Don't even want to "go there" if we didn't take such precautions until the 2 come to know each other...and Cadi to realize that Rascal is NOT her next meal!
And Cadi's reaction, you ask, to this new living situation? A picture is worth a thousand words. Just kidding....so far she seems to be more startled than anything. She has shown surprisingly little interest in him but UNUSUALLY keen attention to me. I think she's trying to guarantee her spot in the family pecking order!
This photo was taken tonight after Rascal has been home with us for a full day. Thankfully, Nikolas hasn't lost interest yet and seems to want to balance time playing inside with Rascal and playing outside with his friends after a "long day" at school. That's good....don't want "bunny burnout!"
Isn't Rascal a cute little guy?!?! His color is "Sable Martin". He looks quite different from the black and gray Netherland Dwarfs that I had as a child. His face is more stubby rather than having the long, slender head. Apparently the reason for this is he is more of a show quality than the "pet" variety. The little girl who raised him for the first 2 years really wanted to show him but he broke a toe awhile back and that disqualifies him. Sure doesn't affect his pet quality though!
We have a new bedtime routine....... doesn't Nikolas look content?!
And you're wondering where on earth do we keep a pet rabbit?? Yep, there is his big, ol' (rather quite new) cage. Attractive, huh? No smell yet.... Thank God! For a little boy who is extremely sensitive to smells, he seems completely content to share his room with a rabbit. Maybe it's better stated that he refuses to let Rascal call any other room in the house "home"!
So there you have it....our first post as a family of 5.....hopefully the next post about increasing our family size will be when we bring our little girl home!
