9-13, Vail Oktoberfest

I saw an ad on tv last week for Vail's upcoming Oktoberfest. Our hopes were high and the weather was warm.  We didn't know what to expect since we'd never been to Vail or its Oktoberfest.  Vail is a beautiful town (no kidding, right, with its reputation for famous and well-to-do vacationers that frequent there).  The Oktoberfest was complete sensory overload and, in our opinion, over-dramatized in true American fashion.  Yes, there was beer, brats, and German folk music, but the ambience just didn't give us that true German feeling that we miss from Deutschland.  I guess we were in America afterall, but it would have been nice just to pretend we were in Germany for a few hours instead.  Oh well, we tried-- another item to check off our list, I suppose.  While Oktoberfest was not a hit with the Krauss family, we did enjoy the time we spent in the mountains that day.  We went for a short hike and a scenic drive over Loveland Pass.  Colorado has a beauty all its own.  It's less like Montana than I'd always imagined and distinct from any other place I've been. With each bend in the road, the landscape changes.  I guess it's a good thing there's a lot more of this state for us to see then.  Stay tuned!

Ok, bad picture, I know, but I just had to try and get a picture of this guy and his dog.....with matching orange and black shoes!

We were more entertained by these guys playing with their dogs at the river than the festival!
Neat little piece of history from this area:
