Emalie and I have a routine. Every morning, after errands or exercise, I get to sit down and have my 'coffee break' (ingrained in me thanks to my sea days and time spent with the union guys. Ha!) and Emalie gets to watch a show (her current favorite-- the Berenstain Bears). If the weather allows, I like to read outside with my cup of coffee or tea. As the weather shifts throughout the year, so does my favorite spot on either our back, side or front decks (these decks are just about my favorite part of this house). A few days ago, I was determined to find us a campground for my upcoming birthday weekend. I had my Colorado guide and camping books spread out and the online reservation system pulled up on my phone. Because I was so deep in my project, I don't even know how long these little guys were there. When I finally looked up, not 20' away from me was this mama and her babies. It was love at first sight. Year after year when the 'babies come', I'm never in situations to see or photograph them. And many times, we're on vacation and by the time we're back the babies have not only arrived but grown substantially. When I saw these lounging babes, my heart did flips. I finally got to see the young fawns!! I don't remember ever seeing them relaxing in our side yard before. Such a treat. I spent several minutes just observing them, then finally, quietly, snuck inside to retrieve my camera. My photographic goals in Colorado have been to capture the fawns in our neighborhood and the aspen in the mountains. I couldn't believe my fortune. I can't wait until mama brings these babies by again for a visit!
