Day 8; July 27, 2012; Wuhan, China
This was our last time in Wuhan. We packed up our suitcases and checked out of the hotel. We went first to the C.A.B. to pick up Emalie’s passport. We said goodbye to the friendly registrar. We then went to the notary office to pick up the remaining documents. The flight from Wuhan to Guangzhou was Emalie’s first plane ride. After only a little fussing, she slept most of the one and a half hour flight. She did quite well. She even laughed at the plane’s bumpy landing. Sven had to change her diaper in a hall at the airport and we let her walk by herself for a while. It was amusing to see all four of our checked-in suitcases standing on the ground by the conveyor. When is your luggage ever there waiting for you without another person in sight?!
After six years of hearing about Richard, we were finally able to meet him. I think he must be close in age to us. He also has a 9-year old daughter who he says is very loud! He drove us in his own car to the hotel. He helped us check in and find our room. He also showed us the area surrounding the hotel a little. We said our goodbyes and came across two other families who are adopting-- one from Illinois and one from Alabama. Both of their children are special needs. It was nice to see other Americans. There are many adoptive families staying at the Garden Hotel. At least we feel welcome and more people speak English here. By the time we finished talking, it was raining and we were all quite tired and hungry. We grabbed Subway sandwiches and water, and returned to our room. We have learned that Emalie is quite sensory, too. She doesn’t do well with lots of people and activity. She prefers being alone with us in our room. We got everyone to bed after a very long day.

Emalie is quite drawn to other children. Here she approached this family in the airport at Wuhan. |
Ready. Set. Let's fly! Yes....that is a pacifier in her mouth. We gave it to her to see what she would do with it. What did she do? Nothing! She bit on it, laughed and handed it back to us. She had no idea what it was for! |
Already asleep. |
Happy to be setting out on this next leg of our journey. |
At the airport in Guangzhou. |
Emalie's first time in a stroller. I'm thinking she's not a real fan of it. |
Our suite in the Garden Hotel was amazing. I forgot to take pictures of the rest of it before our stuff got scattered all around, but here is a picture of the bedroom and bathroom. I think we need to upgrade our master at home...... |
I couldn't figure out what this remote in the bedroom (and another one in the bathroom) was for until I looked closely-- a bath curtain remote, of course. |
The hotel obviously caters to adoptive families. This crib and baby gift basket was waiting for us in our room. We loved it and (finally) felt so welcome. |
