Spring Break is here! This year we're trying something new: a Staycation. Ha, Ha. I just had to say that since I heard that term a few years back. No exotic vacation for us, nope we're staying right here in Denver to do a little exploring. Our first day trip: Manitou Cliff Dwellings near Colorado Springs. The trip got off to a little glitch-- I THOUGHT we were going to a place I'd been to during Thad's academy years (which was awesome!!) but after talking to mom on the drive to the dwellings I discovered that the place I was picturing in my head was actually in ARIZONA! Bummer! Well, being halfway to where we were going and 10 hours from where I thought we were going..... we stayed our course, afterall it IS a staycation.......
Much to my surprise (for the second time of the day), the Manitou Cliff Dwellings were better than I'd given them credit for. These dwellings were moved from New Mexico to Colorado in the early 1900s. I still can't imagine how they accomplished that task-- what an undertaking! The Anasazi people lived in these dwellings in New Mexico from 1100-1300 A.D. We enjoyed going in and out of the rooms and seeing how these ancient people lived. Nikolas kept repeating "This is SICK!" (apparently that means it's really awesome.....or back when I was his age I guess I would have said it was "RAD". ha ha)

We came across this store in downtown Manitou Springs. It's not too often to find an Osburn -- and spelled this way, too! |
